SLED Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in York County

Monday, Jul 7, 2025

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred Saturday evening, July 5, 2025, in Rock Hill, SC. The Rock Hill Police Department requested the SLED investigation.

Deputies from York County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunshots fired from a vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle and saw an armed woman inside. While following the subject, deputies requested assistance from the Rock Hill Police Department. The woman stopped at the intersection of Sturgis Road and Cheryl Lynn Drive in Rock Hill and during an encounter, a Rock Hill police officer shot the armed subject. She was placed under arrest and taken to the hospital. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The initial investigation by SLED revealed the weapon was a replica gun, a BB gun, made to look like an actual handgun (picture attached).

The York County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing criminal charges.

This is an ongoing investigation. As such, no other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time.

SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting (OIS) investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident or the agency with jurisdiction. When requested to investigate an OIS, SLED’s goal is to conduct a thorough, independent criminal investigation as timely as is possible under the circumstances. SLED agents will conduct interviews with all potential witnesses in this matter. Further, SLED will collect all relevant evidence and will forensically test such evidence as needed. Information gathered in the SLED investigation of the incident will be summarized in a case file report to be submitted to prosecutors.

This is the first officer involved shooting for the Rock Hill Police Department this year.

In 2024, there were 45 officer involved shootings in South Carolina. Rock Hill Police Department had one officer involved shooting last year.
