SLED’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit specializes in making maps and dashboards that communicate, perform analysis, share information, and solve complex problems.
The SLED GIS Unit provides statistical support to law enforcement agencies and other community partners to encourage intelligence-led policing.
GIS can help answer the questions of where and when crime is occurring and organize data into easily understood and useable information that can help increase both the understanding of crime in South Carolina and the effectiveness of crime reduction strategies across the state.
Utilizing the capabilities of ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro software and Microsoft Excel, SLED GIS analysts transform large data sets into high quality, interactive products that specialize in data entry, management, and analysis. Those products can take a variety of forms, including, but not limited to, analytical reports, dashboards, maps, surveys, and applications.
For data requests, SLED GIS is equipped to use the data housed in the SCIBRS repository or provided data, such as RMS or CAD data.
Contact the SLED GIS Unit at 803-896-0405 or gis@sled.sc.gov.
