SLED charges Jasper County inmate with Human Trafficking

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Jaquan Duvall Barnes, 29, with the following on Thursday, July 11, 2024:

  • Human Trafficking of a Minor
  • 2 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor –2nd Degree
  • 2 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor –3rd Degree
  • Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor
  • Unlawful Escape

Details can be found in the attached warrants.

Barnes was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office Special Victims Prosecution Unit.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the Beaufort Police Department, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Hardeeville Police Department, the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations are working together on the active and ongoing investigation.

SLED Special Agents trained to investigate Human Trafficking related crimes are assigned to the Alcohol, Narcotics, & Vice Services Department. These Agents investigate Human Trafficking referrals from the S.C. Department of Social Services, S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice, the S.C. Attorney General’s Office, and the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Agents also partner with local and federal law enforcement agencies across South Carolina to combat these crimes.
