SLED charges former Dorchester County Detention Deputy with Assault & Battery 3rd Degree

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Antoine Newton, 33, with Assault & Battery 3rd degree on Thursday, October 23, 2024. The SLED investigation was requested by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
Details can be found in the attached warrant.
Newton was booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 1st and 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Offices Public Integrity Unit. The Public Integrity Unit is a collaboration between the 1st and 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Offices that consists of senior-level attorneys and investigators from both offices, who work with law enforcement agencies to review alleged public corruption, as well as officer-involved shootings and other use-of-force cases.
