SLED’S POLYGRAPH UNIT

As an assisting agency, SLED is available to provide polygraph services to any law enforcement agency, regarding any criminal matter. SLED’s polygraph services are available to all local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies and help to determine the truthfulness of a suspect or witness through state-of-the-art equipment and time-tested polygraph examination techniques.

SLED regulates polygraph licensures for both government and private examiners for the State of South Carolina. SLED’s Polygraph Unit maintains records for existing and new examiners, making certain all licensed examiners in the state have at least a $5,000 surety bond and have paid the required licensing fees.

Did you know that Polygraph Examiners are required to complete an application, pass a written exam, conduct 150 polygraph exams supervised by a SC licensed polygraph examiner, and pass a SLED review of these 150 exams to obtain a Polygraph Examiner’s License?

If you are interested in learning more about how SLED’s Polygraph Unit may assist your agency, please reach out to Lieutenant Caitlin McPherson-Bryant by calling (803) 896-7292.

The polygraphs are typically conducted at the Columbia Office located at 4416 Broad River Road but may be approved at other locations across the state on a case-by-case basis.

SLED has three active polygraph examiners available to assist.
