SLED Charges Two York County Women with Ill Treatment of Animals

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Amari Anne Mitchell, 27, and Kaitlyn Johnson, 26, with Ill Treatment of Animals on Friday, May 16, 2025. Mitchell and Johnson were both later charged with a second count of Ill Treatment of Animals, as well as Burying a Dead Animal Improperly, and Criminal Conspiracy on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The York County Attorney’s Office requested the SLED investigation.

Details can be found in the attached warrants.

Mitchell and Johnson were both booked into the York County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the 16th Circuit Solicitors Office.
