SLED Charges North Carolina Man Following Officer Involved Shooting in Calhoun County

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Steven Dwayne Townsend Jr., 32, with Assault and Battery - 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest and Assaulting a Police Officer, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, Grand Larceny - Value More Than $2,000 but Less Than $10,000, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED investigation.

Townsend Jr. was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
These charges are related to an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Calhoun County. SLED's investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
