SLED Charges Darlington County Councilwoman and Her Son with Assault & Battery

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Elaine R. Reed, 78, with Assault & Battery - 3rd Degree, and Lorand Clayton Reed, 54, with Assault & Battery - 2nd Degree on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The Darlington Police Department and the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED investigation.
Details can be found in the attached warrants.
Elaine and Lorand were booked into the Darlington County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office at the request of the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
