SLED charges Charleston County man and York County woman following financial scam investigation

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Richard Alexander, 54, and Marie Drakeford Cunningham, 58, with four counts each of Criminal Conspiracy and Obtaining Signature or Property Under False Pretenses, Value $10,000 or more.
Alexander and Cunningham were located in North Carolina, then transported to Lee County. Alexander was then arrested on January 15, 2025, and Cunningham was then arrested on January 30, 2025. The two were arrested again in Darlington County on February 3, 2025.

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED investigation.
Alexander and Cunningham were booked into the Sumter - Lee Regional Detention Center, then the Darlington County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the SC Attorney General’s Office.
