Former SLED Agent Inducted Into SC Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame

SLED sends sincere congratulations to the family of former South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Captain Walter G. Powell, Sr. on his induction into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service.
 
The 2025 induction ceremony was held by the Department of Public Safety at the Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, SC. In all, there were seven individuals honored for their outstanding law enforcement contributions.
 
SLED Chief Mark Keel presented Captain Powell’s family with the Hall of Fame Induction plaque. Walter G. Powell, Sr. served at SLED from 1956 to 1996. He passed away on February 16, 2019, at 80 years old. 
In addition to an excellent record of service in law enforcement, nominees must also have a minimum of 25 years of law enforcement service. The nominees cannot currently be employed by a law enforcement agency or have been employed in the past five years and may be nominated posthumously.
