SLED Charges Former Custody Officer with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Vernon Leon Stewart, 62, with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult on Monday, March 16, 2026. Wellpath Recovery Solutions requested the SLED investigation. Wellpath Recovery Solutions is a contracted facility through the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities – Office of Mental Health.
Details can be found in the attached warrant.
Stewart was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.
The case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
