SLED Announces New K9 to Serve Communities Across South Carolina
Wednesday, Jan 14, 2026
K9 Timber and her handler, Special Agent Corey Jager (pictured right of SLED seal), now serve as SLED’s first Human Remains Detection Team. K9 Timber’s training includes detecting human remains in buildings, vehicles, open areas, underground, and in water.
To further SLED’s mission as an assisting agency, K9 Timber can travel to all corners of the state, providing law enforcement partners an additional resource to help solve crimes, locate missing victims, and bring closure to victims' families. The eighteen-month-old German Shepherd can also be deployed during natural disasters and critical incidents.
Thanks to SLED’s K9 Coordinator, Senior Special Agent Douglas Wannemacher (pictured left of SLED seal), K9 Timber is certified in Human Remains Detection through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA). Timber is also a recent graduate of the SLED K9 Academy, which consists of 600 hours of training.
